Abstract

The article derives from the author's experience with the short stories of Nelson Rodrigues originally known  as Life as it is...  The body of the article consists fundamentally in his discovery of the tales of the newspaper column "Life as it is" and the possibility of staging them. This resulted in a single theatre show, which was re-enacted several times. The conception however has always remained the same: the maintenance of the narrative text, playing with multiple ways of conveying the author’s voice through the actors. The article also describes and analyses the  repertoire of resources of non-illusionist theatricality used in the scenic illustration of Nelson Rodrigues' short stories.

Luis Artur Nunes, Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro

Ph.D. em Teatro pela City University of New York. Mestre em Teatro pela State University of New York. Graduação em Direção Teatral pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Prof. Da Escola de Teatro e no Programa de Pós-Graduação da Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO). Dentre os espetáculo que dirigiu, destacamos: A vida como ela é (1991), teatralização das crônicas de Nelson Rodrigues pela qual ganhou o Prêmio Sated/RJ; A volta ao lar (1992), de Harold Pinter; Vestido de noiva (1993), de Nelson Rodrigues; Que mistérios tem Clarice (1998), teatralização de textos de Clarice Lispector; Chico Viola (1998), escrita por ele mesmo; O correio sentimental de Nelson Rodrigues (1999); Arlequim, servidor de dois patrões (2002), de Carlo Goldoni, e A maldição do vale negro (2004), de Caio Fernando Abreu, pela qual ganhou o Prêmio Molière.
